Kwakwani student receives guitar to pursue her love for music

Ms. Miggins and her Mother receive the gift from Min. TrotmanToday, August 3, 2017, Minister of Natural Resources Hon. Raphael Trotman handed over a brand new guitar to Ms. Kenya Miggins of Kwakwani, Region 10 in response to a humble request made by her when she submitted a note along with her entry for the Ministry’s Petroleum Commission of Guyana (PCG) Logo Competition that concluded earlier this year. The Petroleum Commission of Guyana will oversee and manage Guyana’s emerging oil and gas sector.

The note stated, ”I designed a logo for the Petroleum Commission of Guyana and it’s perfect…..If I do not win the prize, please can you help me buy a guitar, the cheapest one please……I really like music and school is so important..”

Though Kenya’s entry was not selected when the logo competition winners were announced, her humble request pulled on the heartstrings of the Minister and review team and prompted a desire to fulfill the need. The Ministry of Natural Resources, as does the the entire government, pays much attention to developments in the Upper Berbice area and seeks to support worthwhile endeavours in which youth are the beneficiaries.

During the brief presentation made on behalf of the President, H.E. David A. Granger and Government of Guyana, Min. Trotman expressed Government’s pleasure at being able to support Kenya’s love for music and encouraged her to keep striving for excellence.  He noted the timeliness of the gift since Kenya topped her class at the recent end of term exams and is also celebrating her 16th Birthday on Saturday, August 5, 2017.

The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Natural Resources, wishes Kenya a Happy 16th Birthday and many productive guitar sessions!
