Press Release – Minister of Natural Resources advances green state vision in Mahdia and Lethem

-Pledges 2.5m to Cashew Grove Lethem

In observance of Agriculture Month 2018 and National Tree Day, Minister of Natural Resources Hon. Raphael Trotman and Ministry of Natural Resources Environment Project Officer, Dr. Latchmin Punallal, visited Mahdia and Lethem and assisted in the advancement of the green agenda in the towns.

During the visit, the team donated a number of seedlings to residents to encourage kitchen gardening and planted infant trees in two compounds in the Mahdia township; Mahdia District Hospital and Mahdia Secondary School, along with Lethem's Cashew Grove park.

Minister Trotman noted that the exercise comes as his Ministry seeks to advance HE President David Granger’s vision of planting life-sustaining trees in the communities and the green spaces initiative.

With regards to advancing the green spaces initiative, while in Lethem, the Minister during his address towards the gathering at Cashew Grove comprising Lethem residents and Mayor, Kerry Jarvis, offered support to the resuscitation of the area. As part of the Ministry’s programme for the establishment and enhancement of green spaces, he made a pledge of
$2.5m towards the area. This contribution will assist in making the area a recreational park with a green emphasis, for the enjoyment of the residents of the town.

The Minister thereafter donated several garbage containers as part of the Ministry’s ‘A Clean Environment Project’, urging the mayor and residents to ensure they are used to maintain the cleanliness of the area.

Before departing, Minister Trotman donated a number of school supplies to the town. Mahdia also received supplies.
