Press Release – Canadian High Commissioner calls on the Minister of Natural Resources

-Support for capacity building and mutual investment opportunities

Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, M.P., was today February 19, 2021, paid a courtesy call by the newly appointed High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Guyana, Mr. Mark Berman.

Minister Bharrat and the Canadian High Commissioner held wide-ranging discussions relating to economic development and forging partnerships for the much-anticipated development of Guyana, resulting from the petroleum sector.

During discussions, possible areas for technical cooperation and capacity building were also explored, particularly for technical training to enhance capacity in oil and gas, underground mining and quarrying.  It was agreed that the Ministry and the Embassy will work closely in the near future to advance areas of mutual interests.

Additionally, talks were held on Guyana’s participation at the annual PDAC 2021 Convention—the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining event which will be held virtually from March 8-11, 2021. The annual PDAC Convention is the world’s premier international event for the minerals and mining industry. It has attracted more than 25,000 people from 135 countries in recent years.
