Minister Trotman meets with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elkhan Polukhov

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elkhan Polukhov on Thursday August 22nd 2019, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman.

During the meeting, the Ambassador referenced his meeting with Hon. Minister of State, Dawn Hastings-Williams and the areas of collaboration discussed which included sports development. He also noted his Government’s willingness to share expertise in Oil and Gas with Guyana especially in relation to the protection of Guyana’s oil fields and development of a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). Ambassador Polukhov noted that Azerbaijan has the youngest SWF in the world having started in 2015 and can help Guyana understand how to actualize a SWF since his country’s experience is more closely related to Guyana’s at the moment.

It was also indicated that cooperation in youth and sport development is also an area of interest and his Government is especially willing to share its experience and expertise in training youth volunteers at its Volunteer School.  The Ambassador extended an invitation on behalf of his Government for a Guyanese Delegation to attend the XVIII Summit Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Minister Trotman noted that Guyana welcomed collaboration and appreciates the guidance offered to hear from countries who are still learning and noted that Government Ministers will discuss and put forward its collective interest in the “gift” being offered to Guyana by Azerbaijan.

After the healthy engagement, Minister Trotman expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit to the office.
